Established in 1768, we are the largest independent business membership organisation in Jersey, representing businesses of all sizes and sectors.

Our diverse Membership is at the heart of what we do; we ensure Members’ views are heard in Government through our Committees and lobbying work, ultimately; we seek to promote trade and build our Island’s prosperity.

For 255 years, our Members have helped shape the business landscape with great results. We celebrate our heritage and embrace the future; believing our opinions and independent respected voice will continue to bring prosperity and new opportunities for trade and commerce.

Our collective strength ensures Members’ voices are heard. Our diverse membership body and our Committees are made up of some of the finest business minds in the island. Together, we can navigate change and embrace the future by proactively identifying new commercial opportunities for our island.

We host the most well attended regular business networking events in Jersey. Critical briefings and Chamber Lunches continue to be at the heart of the local business communities creating valuable opportunities for people to meet, dialog, connect and network.

Murray Norton

CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Murray brings a significant combination of business, media, and political experience to the role of Chief Executive. He was a retail and restaurant owner, BBC presenter for 22 years, TV presenter in the USA and Europe for 10 years, and served as Assistant Minister in the Government of Jersey.

As Deputy for St Brelade and Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport, and Culture (2014-2018), he oversaw Trading Standards, Consumer Affairs, the Channel Island Lottery, and was on the Housing and Work Advisory Group and Privileges and Procedures Committee.

Murray's background provides unique insights to effectively represent Members’ interests, promote trade, influence legislation, and increase prosperity for the Island. He has also raised millions for local charities over 40 years and hosts major events in Jersey, including the Jersey Air Display, Liberation Day and Royal Visits.

Adam Budworth

PRESIDENT

Adam Budworth is the Managing Director of Grant Thornton Limited, a leading Channel Island practice with offices in Guernsey and Jersey and a combined staff of over 200 people. We are the Channel Island member of Grant Thornton International, a network of independently run member firms that comprise of some 68,000 professionals located in 147 markets.

Adam has an incredibly hands-on approach to leadership, having held Director roles for some 20 years. Adam’s leadership style puts people at the heart of Grant Thornton’s strategy and vision and encourages full buy-in to the Grant Thornton values of collaboration, leadership, excellence, agility, respect, and responsibility.

Adam has a bold vision of growth and has tripled the size of the business’ workforce since he took over as MD in 2016. When Adam is not acting as Managing Director and driving Grant Thornton to success, he also heads up the local Business Advisory team, which supports owner managed and larger institutional businesses to grow their business through a series of dynamic and innovative solutions including accountancy support, payroll, and outsourcing.

Adam is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He actively encourages continuity in Grant Thornton’s focus on local community and delivers significant philanthropic endeavours that help make a difference to those that need it most. Grant Thornton actively supports several local corporate social initiatives working closely with local schools, sports clubs and charities.

Adam previously held the position of Treasurer of Jersey Chamber for five years and is now in the second year of his Tenure as President of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce.

Adam is a Mental Health First Aider, an active golfer and regularly keeps fit. Perhaps most importantly Adam is a devoted husband to Glenda and dedicated father to their two children, Dolly-Rae and Johnnie.

Adam’s professional and personal resilience is second to none, particularly for anyone who knows the story of the accident himself and Glenda were involved in, during 2013.

Daphne East

CO-VICE PRESIDENT

Daphne started her career in the hospitality industry as a chef and worked all over the world, including a stint in London for Antony Worrell Thompson as Head Chef at Drones of Pont Street. When Antony opened Metro in Jersey in 1998, he seconded Daphne to Jersey as his Head Chef.

Daphne then opened Cyrano’s in Kensington Place the first Seafood & Fusion Restaurant in Jersey in 1999. After working as Head Chef for over 6 years Daphne decided to leave the hospitality industry and worked as New Product Development and Sales Executive for Cimandis.

Daphne then moved to the UK for 2 years working in New Product Development and Sales for bakeries manufacturing for Marks & Spencer. On her return to Jersey, Daphne once again revived her role at Cimandis and moved up the ranks to become Head of Sales for Jersey and Guernsey.

In 2014 Daphne took on the role of Town Centre Manager for the Parish of St Helier and was instrumental in the formation of the Jersey Retail Association and delivering town centre events. Daphne is a member of Resilience Matters charity and sits on the Tourism Development Fund board.

Daphne is Head of Category & Local Sourcing at the Channel Islands Cooperative managing the local supply, fresh, frozen and non-food categories.

Lee Madden

CO-VICE PRESIDENT

Lee is the CEO of GR8 Recruitment Employment Solutions Ltd, the Channel Islands leading recruitment partner that specialises in the recruitment of global resources into the islands as well as local recruitment, supporting a cross section of business sectors. With a local and global reach Lee leads a team that embodies the business purpose of Professionalism, Agility, Inclusion and Drive, always providing the right solution at the right time.

With a strong focus on accountability and empowered leadership Lee has seen his business grow as a specialists within its field, he regularly engages with individual sectors supporting bodies, government officials and elected members to ensure that productivity is of the highest priority and delivers on outcomes working in partnership with all stakeholders.

Paying back into the community is something that Lee is passionate about, this can be seen by his staunch support of a number of local / international charities as well as his work with the next generation of the islands leaders working with organisations such as Skills Jersey, Highlands College and the Design, Engineer and Construct program.

With a focus on collaborative working and learning from others has seen Lee bring together the leadership teams of not only the Crown Dependencies Chamber of Commerce but international British Chambers too and works extensively with the governments a several East African countries that have a commercial footprint / interest in the Channel Islands.

Outside of work you will find Lee on a boat, avoiding rocks, relaxing with family and friends, keeping fit by cycling and occasionally you may find him hacking out on a horse that is a passion of his and his partner Hilary. Lee has a love of cooking, good food as well as the accompanying wine and enjoys nothing more being around good people, because, “good people make good things happen”.

With the belief that the desired outcome is always achievable, driven determination to get things done and a collaborative approach to challenges shows that Lee has the ability to lead teams and projects to great success.

Donna Wagstaff

HONORARY TREASURER

With over 35 years experience in accounts, tax and company secretarial services, Donna is now dedicating her working career to supporting local, offshore businesses find innovative solutions to their accounting needs. She prides myself on delivering first class, timely service to her valued clients. Donna also enjoys leading teams, motivating them to achieve their potential.



 

Chamber Committees

Executive Council
The Executive Council is autonomous of Government and meets to review matters of interest to the membership.
Building, Housing & Environment
This committee represents Chamber members predominantly working in the construction, development and environment sectors.
Digital Business
This committee seeks to maximise the economic growth of the Island’s growing digital sector.
Finance
This committee meets bi-monthly to promote understanding between the finance industry and the broader objectives of the Chamber of Commerce.
Employment and Skills
The Employment & Skills Committee acts in a consultative capacity with a number of private and government bodies during the course of the year to ensure Members have a view.
Retails & Supply Committee
The Retail and Supply committee meet monthly, its purpose is to represent all retailers in Jersey and seek to positively support and encourage a viable and sustainable retail industry within Jersey.
Visitor Economy
The Committee comprises of representatives from the island’s airline and shipping companies as well as individuals involved in the island’s hospitality and tourism sector.
