Sure empowers Jersey families with greater control over digital life
Sure is making it easier for families to feel confident and in control of their digital lives, with a new plan to help parents and carers manage safe access to devices and connectivity.
Mike Fawkner-Corbett, Sure’s Acting Chief Commercial Officer, explained why this is so important:
“We’re all living increasingly digital lives and while that brings lots of benefits it also comes with challenges – especially for young people navigating the online world.
“Working with movements like Smartphone Free Childhood has highlighted how much our community cares about online safety. We see it as our responsibility to support families with the tools and guidance they need.”
Sure has this week launched a new pay monthly plan – ‘Basic Sharer’ – which includes unlimited calls and SMS messages but not mobile data. The plan is just £12.50 a month and provides an option for parents who want their children to be connected so they can stay in touch, but not have internet access.
Children on this plan can remain in touch with family and friends by calling or texting, while any access to digital services is only possible via WiFi at locations such as home or school. In these environments, parents and carers have greater ability to manage and monitor online activity through device-based parental controls (on Apple and Android operating systems) and the home routers Sure provides.
Sure’s range of handsets includes the Nokia 110 – an ideal phone for those who just want calls and SMS – and smartphones from Samsung and Apple that come with parental controls built in. These options help parents and carers guide their child’s digital journey and offer flexibility and a sense of control for families.
“It is all about giving families options – we want to put the power in their hands so they can decide how their kids engage with the online world,” said Mike. “And with that comes the peace of mind that only informed decisions can bring.”
Sure also has dedicated online resources including easy-to-follow guides to using parental controls and safety features across Apple and Android devices, as well as home routers – so families can manage safety at home and on the go.
“At Sure we take online safety seriously, but also know each family is different. Our role is to provide the right tools and the support so people can make the choices that work for them,” said Mike.
Families can explore the new resources and get support by visiting Sure’s website, calling the team at 0808 10 15 247, or visiting Sure’s King Street store.
