Royal Court House Issues Refreshed 2026 Flag Flying Protocol

The Bailiff’s Chambers has released an updated, user-friendly guide for flag flying across the Island in 2026, ensuring that local organizations and public buildings remain in step with official protocol.

Operating from the Royal Court House, the Bailiff’s Chambers is responsible for coordinating the Island’s ceremonial calendar. The newly refreshed guidance aims to simplify the process for building managers and residents alike. While the majority of these dates are provided to Jersey by the UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Island maintains its own unique traditions—most notably the Anniversary of the Liberation of the Island on May 9.

Key Dates for Your 2026 Diary

The 2026 calendar includes several royal anniversaries and national days of significance. Notable dates where flags are expected to be flown include:

  • January 9: Birthday of HRH The Princess of Wales

  • March 9: Commonwealth Day

  • May 6: Coronation Day

  • May 9: Liberation Day (Jersey)

  • June 13: Official Birthday of HM The King

  • September 8: HM The King’s Accession

  • November 8: Remembrance Sunday

  • November 14: Birthday of HM The King

Protocol Reminders

The Bailiff’s Chambers emphasizes that the Jersey flag holds precedence in the Island. When flown alongside the Union Flag, the Jersey flag should generally be given the position of honor. Organizations are also reminded that flags should typically be flown from 8:00 AM until sunset, unless instructed otherwise for periods of mourning (half-masting).

For the full list of dates and detailed etiquette, the public is encouraged to visit the official Flag Flying Days in Jersey digital portal, which has been recently updated for better accessibility.
