DFDS secures 7:45am Saint Malo departure slot for 2026 sailings
DFDS Ferries has confirmed that scheduling discussions with the Port of Saint Malo for 2026 have concluded, with the company securing the much sought-after 7:45am (6:45am GMT) departure slot from Saint Malo for its fastcraft services.
The agreement sees the majority of DFDS’ preferred sailing times approved, reflecting confidence in the company’s operation and its ongoing commitment to strengthening connectivity between Jersey and Brittany. Under the agreed timetable, DFDS will operate early morning French departures at 7:45am, a popular option for both leisure and business travellers.
Chris Parker, DFDS Route Director (Jersey), said: “We are pleased to have secured the 7:45am departure from SaintMalo. It is a prime and competitive time slot and it’s a great result for DFDS, our customers and our partners on both sides of the Channel.”
Visit Jersey Chief Executive Tricia Warwick also commented: “Earlier sailings mean visitors can spend more time enjoying Jersey, so we are delighted that DFDS has secured the 7.45am Saint Malo departure for its fastcraft services. This is an excellent outcome for Jersey’s connectivity with our neighbours in France, and makes the island more appealing for day-trip and short-break visitors.
“The new timetable also supports our efforts to grow inbound tourism from Brittany and beyond, which is a key priority for 2026. We look forward to working with DFDS and Ports of Jersey to promote the route and to keep Jersey accessible and attractive for French visitors.”
The 7:45am departure is particularly well suited to day trips, enabling French visitors to spend more time in Jersey, while also providing improved travel options for islanders travelling to France. The schedule supports growing demand for convenient short breaks and same-day travel, further enhancing Jersey’s accessibility as a destination.
With sailing times now confirmed, DFDS is building confidence in projected passenger volumes to and from Saint Malo, as the company continues its longer-term growth plans — including benefitting from the 2027 European Year of the Normans, marking the millennium of the birth of William the Conqueror, an event expected to draw significant tourism to the region.
Early indicators for 2026 are encouraging, with strong forward bookings already recorded and further growth anticipated as services are promoted. DFDS will work closely with partners in both Jersey and Brittany to promote travel on the route, supporting tourism, strengthening economic links and increasing visitation in both directions.
“This is positive news not only for DFDS, but for Jersey, Saint Malo and the wider region,” added Mr Parker. “We look forward to working with our partners to make the most of the opportunity and to deliver a highquality experience for our passengers.”
