DFDS invites young talent to sea taster day
DFDS has today announced a ‘Careers at Sea Day’ aimed at attracting school leavers in Jersey into DFDS Apprenticeship and Cadet Programmes for the academic year 2025/26.
The event will take place on Wednesday 2nd July onboard the high-speed craft Tarifa Jet and will provide a unique opportunity for aspiring seafarers and their families to explore various roles and educational opportunities within the DFDS fleet.
An exciting day is planned where islanders will be able to get a first-hand impression of all aspects of what it is like to work onboard a vessel in areas such assafety and security, environmental compliance, cargo handling, vessel maintenance and repair, engineering, navigating and creating great experiences for passengers.
Attendees will meet the Captain, Officers and Crew as well as the Marine HR & Crewing Team to learn more about the programmes and about DFDS as an employer.
There are several opportunities available for Deck & Engine Apprentices and Deck and Engine Cadetships starting from age 16 upwards. There are also immediate opportunities available this summer for onboard customer-facing seasonal roles.
Chris Parker, DFDS Jersey Route Director, said: “We are excited to welcome enthusiastic people to join our team and embark on a rewarding career with DFDS, and we are committed to playing a positive role in the local community by creating jobs and opportunities for local islanders and investing in Jersey for the long term.”
DFDS VP Head of Global Crewing, Gemma Griffin, added: “We are passionate about creating long-term career opportunities in the locations where we operate. Life at sea is an exciting one full of opportunities. These programmes are really special because you can enjoy the fun of working at sea and still return home every night, as high-speed craft crew do not live onboard. We have started discussions with both Ports of Jersey and Skills Jersey about our event, and we are looking forward to showcasing the ship and our great colleagues in July.”
