Chamber Hosts Philippine Ambassador for Roundtable Event
The Jersey Chamber of Commerce hosted a special roundtable event on October 14th, welcoming His Excellency Teodoro Locsin Jr., the Ambassador of the Philippines. The event provided a unique opportunity for local businesses and leaders to connect with the ambassador and discuss potential collaborations between Jersey and the Philippines.
The Round Table was hosted by President of Chamber Adam Budworth and attended by Chamber committee leads and senior representatives of businesses, together with other organisations/associations on the island thus providing a broad cross section of the Jersey Economy.
Also in attendance was the Minister for Sustainable Development, Kirsten Morel, who will be working with Chamber to collect feedback and ideas and work with the Embassy in moving solutions forward.
During the roundtable, participants expressed their admiration for the hardworking and talented Filipino community in Jersey. Many employers highlighted the positive contributions of their Filipino employees and expressed a desire to hire more Filipino workers.
However, a common concern raised during the event was the challenges faced by Filipino individuals seeking work permits in Jersey. Participants noted that the application process can be lengthy and complex compared to other countries.
His Excellency Ambassador Locsin and his delegation listened attentively to the concerns raised and pledged to convey these issues to the relevant government and regulatory bodies. They also encouraged participants to share their feedback and suggestions for improving the process.
The roundtable event was a significant step in strengthening the relationship between Jersey and the Philippines. By fostering connections between businesses and government officials, the Chamber hopes to create new opportunities for collaboration and economic growth.
