In 2020, Seymour Hotels will celebrate their 100th birthday. To mark this important milestone, Seymour Hotels are proud to launch the Seymour Hotels Centenary Bursaries. Applications are being sought from Jersey students looking to forge a career in hospitality. With two tiers, the bursaries are open to students heading to University and students preparing for Sixth Form. The bursaries are the first of a number of centenary initiatives that will be rolled out during Seymour Hotels year of celebrations.
The “University” recipient will be awarded a £3,000 bursary to support their studies in a hospitality related undergraduate degree, including culinary courses, starting in 2020. The “Sixth Form” recipients will be awarded a student sponsorship package to support their studies on the Hospitality and Tourism or Culinary Arts full-time courses at Highlands College starting in 2020. A family business since their doors first opened in 1920, five generations of Seymour’s have worked for the company. As the business has grown, so has the size of their ‘family’ with over 350 staff employed across the group’s six hotels and leisure businesses during the summer months.
“There’s a recruitment crisis in our local hospitality industry and we all have a role to play in raising the profile of how rewarding and stimulating a career in hospitality can be for local students. We are delighted to launch the Seymour Hotels Centenary Bursaries, reflecting our continued commitment to Jersey’s tourism industry,” explains Managing Director David Seymour.
Along with the financial bursary support, the successful candidates will be offered work experience and placements with Seymour Hotels throughout their studies, providing the perfect opportunity to explore all areas of the business. With three distinctly different hotels, state of the art self-catering suites, a unique leisure club, an iconic beachfront diner and a buzzing head office, there are plenty of opportunities to thrive within the Seymour Hotels group.
Eileen Buicke-Kelly, Director of the Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies at Highlands College, commented, “Hospitality isn’t just a job; it is a truly amazing career.
