The Bailiff, following consultation with the Chief Minister and the Comite des Connétables, have agreed to open Parish and Public halls on the morning of Monday 19 September, whereby Parishioners will have the opportunity to come together and watch the televised State funeral of Her Late Majesty The Queen on large television screens.
In addition to the provision of screens in the Parishes, the Jersey Hospitality sector has been encouraged to remain open so that Islanders can watch the funeral in the comfort of licenced establishments.
The Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq said ‘Given the rare occasion of the State funeral of Her Late Majesty it is entirely fitting that the States Assembly has approved a Bank Holiday so that we may pay our respects to our late Sovereign. I am mindful that, with such short notice, there will invariably be an impact on commerce in the Island and I ask organisations who may remain open to operate with respect for the occasion, for the duration of the State funeral when it begins at 11am.’
Furthermore, we encourage Islanders to join in with the national one-minute silence on Sunday 18 September at 8pm and use it as a moment to mourn and reflect on the life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
