Call for Views on Accessibility of Government Plan

Oct 27, 2022

The Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel is asking Islanders to share their views on the extent to which they understand the proposed Government Plan (2023-26) and whether they think it has been laid out in a way which is accessible and meaningful.

The Panel, which is seeking evidence to inform its current review of the proposed Plan, is also asking Islanders to share any views related to:

•    The extent to which the proposed revenue measures to freeze alcohol duty and road fuel duty during 2023 will help to address cost of living concerns; and

•    Which public services would most benefit from Government spending over the next four years

To discuss issues such as this with members of the public, the Panel will be based at the following locations across St Helier next week:

•    Thursday 3 November, Co-op Grande Marché, from 10am

•    Friday 4 November, Brooks Street (opposite Voisins), from 2pm

•    Saturday 5 November, Charing Cross (outside Santander Work Café), from 10am

The Panel asks that any written evidence is submitted to [email protected] by Monday 14 November.

Chair of the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel, Deputy Sam Mézec, said: “Each year, Scrutiny Panels examine the Government’s rolling plan which sets out its strategic and spending priorities for the next four years. This year, in addition to engaging with stakeholders and questioning Ministers on areas that fall within our remit, we are keen to find out whether members of the public understand what the Government Plan is, what it sets out to achieve and what this means for them.

“We are aware that most won’t have the time to sift through a document which spills over 100 pages, so we want to find out whether its contents have been communicated in a way which is accessible and meaningful to people. We hope that our conversations with people will not only shed light on this but also on whether the Plan reflects value for money in the eyes of the taxpayer.”

The Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel will complete its review ahead of the States Assembly debate on the proposed Government Plan, to commence on Tuesday 13 December.
