More than £60,000 awarded to local good causes as Skipton Community Fund marks International Day of Charity

Skipton International is marking International Day of Charity by highlighting the work of charities and community groups that have received funding this year.

The Skipton Community Fund has awarded £62,812 across the Channel Islands so far in 2026, helping organisations deliver initiatives in the region.

Established in 2018, the Fund provides grants of up to £3,000 to smaller not-for-profit organisations whose work benefits local people. Applications for the next funding round close on Wednesday 30 September.

One of this year’s Jersey beneficiaries is Acorn Enterprises, which received funding towards the cost of a new irrigation pump for its plant nursery.

Georgia Hodgson, Fundraising Relationship Lead at Acorn Enterprises, said:

“The Skipton Community Fund has made a big impact at Acorn by supporting the cost of our new irrigation system.

“With hundreds of thousands of plants in the nursery at any one time, many of which can die within 24 hours without water, having reliable irrigation is essential. This vital infrastructure helps ensure the long-term sustainability of the nursery and the many community and public spaces our plants support across the island.”

Jersey Critical Care Survivors also received funding from the Fund. A spokesperson said:

“We would like to say a huge thank you to the Skipton Community Fund for its generous donation. The funding will go directly towards our Intensive Care Unit survivor support groups, guest speakers, and future rehabilitation projects for patients recovering from critical illness.

“We are incredibly grateful for Skipton International’s commitment to supporting our local community and helping us continue this important work.”

Other Jersey beneficiaries this year include Jersey Citizens Advice, ArtHouse Jersey, Dementia Jersey, Jersey Hospice Care, Jersey Trees for Life, the Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Sophie Reid Neurological Association.

“International Day of Charity gives us an opportunity to celebrate the organisations working hard to make a difference in Jersey. Through the Community Fund, we see first-hand the care, energy, and commitment behind their work.

“The grants awarded this year have helped charities buy essential equipment, improve local spaces and provide practical help to islanders. These organisations know what their communities need, and our role is to help them turn good ideas into action.

“We would encourage smaller charities and not-for-profit groups in Jersey to apply before Wednesday 30 September. A grant of up to £3,000 could help bring a valuable local project to life.”
