Jersey Water Announces 2026-2027 Business Plan, Warning of Pressures on Island Supply and Upcoming Bill Adjustments
Jersey Water has released its business plan for 2026–2027, highlighting the mounting pressures on the island's water resources following a dry summer, while detailing necessary infrastructure investments and upcoming tariff adjustments for the coming year.
According to the update from Chief Executive Officer Helier Smith, recent rainfall has helped slow the decline in reservoir levels, but reserves currently sit at just 59% capacity—below average for this time of year. This strain persisted despite the island's desalination plant injecting an extra 200 million litres into the supply and concerted water-saving efforts from local customers.
Highlighting the growing frequency of prolonged hot weather and low rainfall, the utility stressed the urgent need to invest now to secure Jersey's long-term water future.
Investing for Future Security
Building on its 2030 strategy published last year, Jersey Water’s upcoming investment program focuses on critical resilience upgrades. Key initiatives include:
Upgrading the desalination plant to increase output capacity.
Preparing for future PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) regulatory requirements.
Strengthening the overall operational resilience of the water network.

To support these essential infrastructure improvements and maintain a reliable, safe water supply, Jersey Water has announced updated water charges effective from 1 January 2027.
