"It isn’t right or fair"
Jersey's Housing Minister, Deputy Sam Mézec, has criticized the current housing system as unfair and discriminatory, at the Chamber Lunch in July.
He argues that the system, which restricts where people can live based on their length of residency, is outdated and contributes to the island's housing crisis.
Mézec proposes removing these restrictions to give all residents equal access to the rental market. He also highlights the negative impact of the housing crisis on the economy, including difficulties with recruitment and retention of workers.
The minister outlines a three-pronged approach to address the housing crisis: increasing homeownership, improving rental conditions, and tackling homelessness.
