Islanders Invited to First Ever Candidate Fayre

Islanders are invited to attend the first Candidate Fayre, a new event for the 2026 election designed to give voters the opportunity to meet all the candidates standing in their constituency in one place.

The Candidate Fayre will take place on Wednesday 29 April at Oakfield Sports Hall, Wellington Road, St. Saviour, with the public session running from 6.00pm to 8pm.

Modelled on a careers-style fayre, each candidate will have a table where Islanders can speak with them directly, ask questions, and learn more about their priorities ahead of the election. The format is intended to create open, accessible 1-to-1 conversations with voters of all ages.

Earlier in the day, students from Years 11-13 will attend the Fayre as part of a wider programme to support young people in understanding voting and democratic participation. In 2022, only 17% of 16-30 year-olds voted, and the event aims to give younger Islanders an additional opportunity to engage with the election.

The public session will open at 6pm, giving Islanders the chance to drop in at any time before 8pm to meet their constituency candidates.

Jenny O’Brien, Head of Digital and Public Engagement said: “The Candidate Fayre offers voters a rare chance to meet all the candidates they can vote for in one place and have genuine, 1-to-1 conversations about the issues that matter most to them. And by welcoming school groups during the day, we’re giving younger Islanders the opportunity to build confidence, ask questions, and understand the importance of taking part in elections. We hope as many people as possible will come along for the evening session because the more people that get involved, the stronger Jersey’s democracy becomes.”
