Hand Picked Hotels celebrates Green Tourism success across the Channel Islands
Hand Picked Hotels is proud to announce that all five of its Channel Islands properties have achieved Green Tourism accreditation, recognising the group’s commitment to more responsible and sustainable hospitality across the islands.
Green Tourism assesses businesses against rigorous criteria grouped under the three pillars of people, place and planet. Hand Picked Hotels is at the beginning of its journey towards championing sustainable tourism. Working with a world-leading sustainability certification partner for travel, tourism and hospitality businesses, the group aims to embed responsible, sustainable and environmentally friendly practices across its properties and the wider tourism sector. Each property is assessed and awarded a Gold, Silver, or Bronze rating based on its performance.
Within the Channel Islands, Fermain Valley Hotel, St Pierre Park Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa and Braye Beach Hotel achieved Silver status, reflecting strong and consistent sustainability progress. L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa achieved Bronze, marking a positive foundation for continued environmental improvements.
Julia Hands, Chairman of Hand Picked Hotels, said:
“We are delighted that our collection of Hand Picked Hotels has been recognised by Green Tourism for our commitment to more responsible and sustainable hospitality. This accreditation marks an encouraging first milestone on our journey and reflects the passion of our teams across our hotels who are helping us make meaningful progress towards a more sustainable future for our guests, our colleagues and the places we call home.”
This accreditation marks a significant step forward for Hand Picked Hotels and is a testament to the dedication, innovation and teamwork of colleagues across all departments. Across the Channel Islands, hotel teams have made measurable progress in reducing energy use and waste, supporting biodiversity and sourcing responsibly from local and ethical partners.
Hand Picked Hotels actively promotes a range of low and zero carbon activities on its website to inspire guests to explore sustainably. Each hotel encourages guests to support environmentally responsible practices by recycling, conserving water and reducing energy use.
To achieve accreditation, Hand Picked Hotels implemented a wide range of initiatives. Dedicated sustainability teams were established at every property, supported by detailed Green Action Plans with measurable targets. The group’s Sustainability Policy and Our Green Story are published online, outlining initiatives such as expanding local and seasonal sourcing, planting wildflower meadows, creating wildlife habitats and upgrading energy systems with LED lighting, sensors and timers.
Ongoing improvements include specialist sustainability training, community projects such as local clean-ups and planting schemes, expansion of EV charging and investment in water-saving systems and energy-efficient appliances.
The achievement forms part of a wider milestone for Hand Picked Hotels, with all 21 of its hotels across the UK and Channel Islands now accredited by Green Tourism, the world’s leading sustainability certification programme for the travel and hospitality industry.
The Green Tourism accreditation provides independent recognition of the progress Hand Picked Hotels has made so far and reinforces its commitment to continuous improvement. The group will continue to build on this foundation across the Channel Islands and beyond, striving for ever greater environmental performance while ensuring that guests continue to enjoy the warmth, comfort and quality that define the Hand Picked Hotels experience.
