Data Protection Registration Renewal Now Open for 2026

The annual window for data protection registration renewal has officially opened, running from 1 January to 28 February 2026.

Following the launch of a new website on 16 December 2025, the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC) has advised that all users must create a "new" account using their existing email address to access their records.

Key Deadlines and Requirements

  • Renewal Period: 1 January 2026 – 28 February 2026.

  • Mandatory Action: All registrations must be renewed annually. Failure to renew and pay the annual charge (unless exempt) by the 28 February deadline will result in the registration expiring and being removed from the register.

  • New Portal Access: Users who have not accessed the portal since 16 December 2025 must create a new account to link to their previous registrations. https://jerseyoic.org/register-renew

Streamlined Renewal Process

The JOIC has implemented a refreshed website to simplify the process. To ensure a smooth renewal, the office provides the following guidance:

  • Pre-populated Forms: Pages 1 and 2 of the renewal process will be pre-populated with previous details for review.

  • Single Session Required: The renewal must be completed in one visit, as the system does not currently support saving drafts.

  • Deregistration: If a registration is no longer required, the office must be notified within 28 days of the change. However, active companies on the JFSC registry cannot be deregistered until they are dissolved.

Support and Resources

For those needing assistance with their obligations, a self-assessment tool is available on the JOIC website. Support is also available via telephone at (01534) 716530, by email at enquiries@jerseyoic.org, or in person at 5 Castle Street.
