BDO Jersey announces first Chris Stuart Bursary recipient

BDO Jersey is pleased to announce that Arthur Tobin has been chosen as the inaugural recipient of the Chris Stuart Bursary, established in memory of the late Chris Stuart, a respected business leader and mentor at BDO Jersey.

Arthur, who attended Hautlieu School, impressed the panel with his academic achievements, career ambition and well-rounded experience. He achieved exceptional A-Level results and has built a strong foundation of professional experience through undertaking various jobs. At the time of his bursary interview Arthur was travelling in Vietnam as part of a gap year exploring Asia before beginning university at Warwick studying Maths in September 2025. He had already received unconditional offers from several universities and was carefully considering both his course and university choice.

Alison Dryland, Group People Director of BDO Jersey, commented:
“We are honoured to continue Chris Stuart’s legacy through this bursary. Chris was deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of talent and this bursary is a testament to his values. We are excited to offer this opportunity to students who share his passion for growth and development.”  BDO received a large number of applications from high calibre local students with a shortlist of finalists invited to interview.

“It was an absolute pleasure meeting each of the finalists and hearing about their inspiring future plans,” said Alison. “All were truly deserving of the bursary and while we could only select one recipient, we were pleased to offer work experience opportunities to all the finalists. For the inaugural year of the Chris Stuart Bursary, we couldn’t have been happier with the response, and we know how fitting and meaningful a legacy this is to Chris.

We look forward to welcoming Arthur to BDO.”

A Lasting Tribute
The Chris Stuart Bursary provides £15,000 over three years to support a student through their undergraduate studies with additional opportunities for paid placements and mentoring at BDO Jersey. More than financial aid the bursary reflects Chris’s enduring belief in personal and professional development, and the impact that encouragement, opportunity, and support can have on young people’s lives.
