INFORMATION FOR BUSINESSES

On Saturday 7th September 2019, Jersey will be celebrating the 5th Anniversary of Channel Islands Pride, organised by the equality and diversity charity Liberate.

There are many ways that your business can become involved in Channel Islands Pride this year:

Pride Parade & Celebrations - Saturday 7th September 2019

The Channel Islands Pride Parade on Saturday 7th September will be a colourful, family friendly, celebration of equality and diversity in the Island. All Islanders and businesses are welcome to attend.

The Parade will leave Royal Square at 2pm, turning left into King Street and continuing down the pedestrian precinct. At Charing Cross the parade will continue into Castle Street, and then right onto the Esplanade.  The parade will then cross into the Esplanade Car Park and travel via the underpass under the dual carriageway to Cineworld. The parade will then follow Rue de L’Etau towards Castle Quay, turning right and following the path alongside the marina and the Radisson Blu Hotel. Here the 50metre rainbow flag will be unfurled and carried along the final path into Les Jardins de la Mer, where an afternoon of entertainment will begin.

For all those businesses on the parade route, Pride is an opportunity to show your company’s support for equality and diversity by flying the rainbow flag or decorating your shop window in rainbow colours for Pride Week. If you intend to support Pride in this way, please let us know so we can advertise your support across social media. Bunting, flags, and other official Channel Islands Pride merchandise can be purchased from Magic Touch in Weighbridge Place.

We also encourage employees from local businesses to march in the Pride Parade. Please feel free to bring along your own company flags and banners. Magic Touch has assisted many businesses to personalise their own T-Shirts and flags to show that they were supporting Pride, and will be offering this service again this year.

We would also be delighted to hear from any musicians, entertainers, dancers or charity groups who want to participate in the parade. Simply email [email protected] to register your interest.

Family friendly fun with a positive message

Pride is for the whole family. We’re always delighted when participants bring their children, grandparents and even their dogs to join the celebrations! This year there will be a dedicated family zone at Les Jardins de la Mer, with inflatable games, as well as face painting, hula hooping and a glitter bar. As part of our commitment to building a lasting legacy from Pride, young LGBTQ+ author and artist Olly Pike will be speaking on our stage. Olly is the creator of Pop’n’Olly – www.popnolly.com

A free afternoon of music and entertainment

Entry to the Pride Village is completely free. We’ve invited some of Jersey’s best live bands, including Inside Job and Sister Disco, to entertain you on the Channel Islands CoOp Pride Stage. They will be joined by the fantastic London Gay Big Band! If pop and disco aren’t your thing, then you can dance the day away to your own kind of music in the RBC Silent Disco tent. There will be a large range of quality local food available in the Pride Village, from coffee and milkshakes to burgers and Mexican cuisine, alongside licensed bars.

Beach-side games in view of an Island icon

For the first time we’re celebrating Channel Islands Pride at Les Jardins de la Mer and on the beach of St Aubin's Bay, with Elizabeth Castle as our backdrop. There will be a host of games on the beach for all ages, as well as our Sponsors Drag Race. If that all sounds a little too energetic, you can join a yoga session led by Finlay Wilson of Kilted Yoga fame!
