Jersey’s First Cycle Challenge of the Year

Mar 01, 2023

• Ride into Spring challenge runs from 1 to 31 March

• A brand new e-bike is the top local prize up for grabs

• To get involved, Islanders must create an account and log their rides on Love to Ride

Jersey’s first Love to Ride cycling challenge starts today, aiming to get more Islanders cycling and giving them the opportunity to win a brand new e-bike.

The challenge will run until 31 March, during which time Islanders should log their cycle rides on Love to Ride (app or website) to be in with a chance of winning local and national prizes. The more cycle rides logged, the more entries there are into the local prize draw. The winners will be contacted on 5 April 2023.

Nearly 500 Islanders have signed up to Love to Ride, with around 80 classing themselves as completely new riders and over 100 as occasional riders. Islanders continue to be encouraged to sign up and can join the Ride into Spring challenge today or anytime during March.

This campaign is in line with the Government’s Sustainable Transport Policy, and one of its key principles which recognises that fewer vehicle journeys will be good for Jersey. It supports a reduction in carbon emissions and helps put the Island on the path to net zero by 2050, as envisaged under the Carbon Neutral Roadmap.

Sustainability and Climate Change Engagement Manager, Jane Burns, said: “We’re so excited that Jersey’s first Love to Ride cycling challenge is launching today. It’s an amazing opportunity for Islanders to ease back into cycling, or perhaps start cycling for the first time. This isn’t supposed to be a super intense challenge so please don’t be put off if you don’t ride a bicycle regularly, we’re just asking Islanders to log their rides and get into the swing of cycling before we do a bigger challenge for Bike Month in May.

“There are some amazing prizes up for grabs for simply logging a bike ride, including a brand new e-bike! I encourage as many people to sign up as possible, it’s completely free, there’s support available from Move More if you’re not confident riding a bike, and you’ll be doing your bit for the environment by reducing your carbon footprint, so it’s a win-win.”
