Catch-up MMR Clinics offered to children

Jun 06, 2023

• Measles cases on the rise worldwide

• Parents of unvaccinated children to receive letters

• Catch-up clinic at the General Hospital on 10 June

Parents whose child has yet to receive the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella)vaccine, or who missed out when their child was offered, will be receiving letters inviting them to attend a catch-up clinic.

All school-aged children who have not received two doses will also be offered the vaccine.

The catch-up clinic will be happening on Saturday 10 June, 9am-1pm at the General Hospital, Outpatient Department.

Although there have been no known cases of measles in Jersey since 2019, cases of measles are on the rise in the UK and worldwide.

Director of Public Health, Professor Peter Bradley, said: “Uptake of the MMR vaccine is generally high in Jersey, however, it is vital that all children are fully protected. Measles is a highly infectious disease that can lead to serious problems such as pneumonia, meningitis, and on rare occasions, long-term disability or death.

“As we head into the summer and families start planning their holidays, it’s important for parents to be aware of the risks to their child if traveling to areas where outbreaks of measles are happening. MMR vaccine is the best defence against this serious infection, so I urge all parents to make sure their children are fully protected.”
