Jersey Sport’s 2022 Annual Report

Jun 06, 2023

Jersey Sport’s 2022 Annual Report outlines the vital work undertaken to inspire, lead and enable positive well-being for all islanders, through lifelong engagement in Sport and Physical Activity

Jersey Sport has published its new format Annual Report for 2022, which highlights some of the key achievements, developments and changes across the organisation as they continue to inspire, lead and enable positive well-being for all through lifelong engagement in Sport and Physical Activity.

As an independent body and charitable organisation, Jersey Sport is proud to serve the island’s sports clubs, organisations, volunteers and individual players at all levels, and to promote active living, sport and physical activity for all. The organisation significantly contributes to the Government of Jersey’s new Ministerial priorities, working in collaboration with a variety of Government departments.

Having served 18 months as the Shadow Board Chair, commencing at the beginning of2016, and then a further six years leading the organisation itself, Phil Austin MBE, Chair of Jersey Sport is now handing the reins over to a new Chairperson this year. Phil said, “Jersey Sport has always remained true to its mission. The team transitioned well out of two years of COVID-19 disruption and has guided the Island’s sporting bodies back to a ‘new normal’, accepting that we, and the sporting sector, still face considerable challenges, heightened by skill shortages and record levels of inflation.

Despite these challenges, the Jersey Sport Team has continued to advocate for sport and physical activity and in 2022 our continued focus was on delivering a wide range of programmes to support islanders to play sport, and to be regularly active; in turn, improving health and quality of life.

The Board is immensely proud of the team’s achievements and greatly appreciates their tremendous work over my term of office. I would like to say what a privilege it has been to lead Jersey Sport from a seed idea in 2016 to the established organisation it is today. I thank the Staff and Board members of Jersey Sport past and present who have contributed to its development and success. I know Jersey Sport will continue to inspire islanders to play sport and be active for many years to come.”

During 2022, Jersey Sport created its SupportIn Sport initiative, delivering guidance, workshops and resources focused on helping sports organisations to reach Safe and Sustainable Standards for Sport.

The continued work in schools helped more young people to enjoy taking part in sport - through the development of Jersey Sport’s physical literacy programme and we continued to deliver holiday sport camps, toddler play, swimming and cycling lessons to enable children to learn lifelong skills.

A key focus of the organisation is on delivering health, well-being, and improving quality of life for the community. Move More Jersey continued to provide a wide range of opportunities for islanders who are least active and facing life limiting factors needing additional support, to get moving more.

Jersey Sport’s CEO, Catriona McAllister, continues to work closely with the Government of Jersey to lead the Inspiring Active Places project, developing and refurbishing the Island’s sports facilities.
