Jersey Ready: Beyond Brexit virtual event

Oct 15, 2020

A two-day online event, designed by the Government of Jersey to help Islanders and businesses prepare for the end of the Brexit Transition Period, is taking place next week, on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October.

The event will consist of both public and invitation-only industry sessions – focusing on travel, business and trade – with the aim of helping attendees understand and prepare for the changes that will take effect from 1 January 2021.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions all of the sessions will be conducted via webinar.

The Minister for External Relations, Senator Ian Gorst, said: “This public event forms part of our ongoing communications with Islanders and businesses, to explain how they can prepare for the end of the Brexit Transition Period. We are working with a number of our partner organisations – including Jersey Business, the Jersey Chamber of Commerce and Jersey Finance – to deliver what we hope will be an informative two days.

“As negotiations on the future relationship between the UK and EU continue, we are preparing for all potential outcomes, including what is known as a No Further Negotiated Outcome, or NFNO.

“Regardless of the outcome of these negotiations, there will be immediate changes for the Island from the 1 January 2021. We want to ensure that Islanders, businesses and affected industries are aware of these changes and have time to prepare for them.

“Alongside my fellow Ministers, I will be involved throughout the event, and ready to answer questions from the public and businesses. This is a good opportunity for those with questions, concerns or interest to get involved.”

All public sessions will be streamed via the Government of Jersey’s YouTube and Facebook channels. The full event schedule, and how to access each session, is online at gov.je/beyondbrexitevent.

Questions for Ministers and officials – in text or video format - can be emailed in advance to [email protected], or during the event by using #BeyondBrexit on social media or the Slido application.
