Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner Annual Renewal & Registrations

ALL Jersey organisations that process (use) people’s personal information must RENEW their registration with the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (JOIC) for 2021, during the renewal window which runs from 1 January 2021 to 28 February 2021.

The above is a key requirement of the Data Protection Authority (Jersey) Law 2018 and applies to organisations of ALL shapes and sizes including landlords, childminders, sole traders, charities, commercial businesses, not-for profit organisations and associations in Jersey that process people’s personal information.*Please note that certain organisational statuses mean although registration is required, a fee will not be applied.

In order to make sure as many of your members as possible fulfil their data protection obligations and do not find themselves in breach of the Data Protection Authority (Jersey) Law 2018 our office is urging you to remind your members and clients about their data protection registration obligation.

If your professional members are not already registered and use personal information, they must register with our office as soon as possible. It is a criminal offence to use personal information without being registered with our office.

  1. How to Renew or Register 

To renew a registration or register for the first time, organisations should visit and click the ‘Manage Registrations’ link on the homepage.

If your professional members are unsure about whether they need to register with our office or need help with the registration process, they can view the attached ‘Do I need to Register?’ and ‘How to Register’ pdf documents. Short ‘how to’ videos and registration guidance as well as general data protection guidance can be found online at

  1. Housekeeping

In advance of renewing a registration via, organisations should be prepared with the following information:

Login using your username (email address) and password for logging into your JOIC user profile, created to complete 2020’s registration. New registrations will be guided through the process on the ‘Manage Registrations’ page of our website.

An understanding of whether their organisation has:

  • Less than 10 employees
  • Between 10 and 50 employees inclusive
  • 51 employees or more

An understanding of whether their organisation has past year revenues of:

  • Less than £100k
  • Between £100k and £5 million inclusive
  • More than £5 million but £20 million or less
  • More than £20 million

  1. Payment

The registration renewal window runs from 1 January 2021 to 28 February 2021 and all payments must be received by 28 February 2021.

The renewal covers all processing of personal data for 2021. Payments can be made online at by BACS, cheque, debit or credit card. Depending on the cost of your renewal, remember to make sure this does not exceed your card limit. You will need to allow enough time for your payment to clear by 28 February 2021.
