Islanders are invited to attend public briefings to hear about the changes to the tax system. They’ll be able to ask Christophe Ait-Elhadj, Operations Manager for Personal Tax, Fiona Fraser, Deputy Director for Domestic Tax Policy, and Marie Vibert, Change and Engagement Manager for Revenue Jersey any questions. No booking is required.

The events follow approval from States Members to move into the first phase of Independent Taxation. This means that from 1 January 2022 it will be compulsory for people who marry or enter a civil partnership, and for all new arrivals into the Island, to be independently taxed.
The events will cover information provided in the leaflets and online, and also demonstrate how the new online tax calculator can be used to explore how taxation may change. Presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Attendees will also be invited to give feedback on the event.
These events are running as 671 married couples and civil partnerships who were separately assessed for the 2020 tax year, are choosing whether to move to Independent Taxation in the 2022 tax year as part of a pilot group. It will gather feedback on communications and support available to islanders, and for those who then choose to elect, the process of transitioning to independent tax. So far, more than 50 taxpayers have signed up for the pilot.
All other married couples and civil partnerships will be invited to elect between January and July 2022, to begin being independently taxed from 2023.
Minister for Treasury, Deputy Susie Pinel, said: “I would like to remind Islanders that there are several public briefings taking place from tomorrow (Wednesday 6 October), starting in the Town Hall. I urge Islanders to use this opportunity to listen to the information and ask any questions they may have about changes to the tax system and how they might be affected.”
An online panel session will also take place in November and will be live-streamed on the Government’s social media. More details to follow.
