Increase in Permanent French Fishing Licences

Nov 12, 2021

The Minister for the Environment, Deputy John Young, has issued the following statement:

“Following the receipt of further evidence, three French fishing vessels are today moving from the ‘Orange’ to ‘Green’ licensing categories, converting from temporary to permanent licences.

“In order to obtain a permanent licence, we required additional data about their fishing track record in Jersey waters. Sufficient evidence has now been provided for these three vessels.

“We have always been clear that the process is based purely on data and evidence. Our door is always open to more evidence for vessels that currently have no licence, and new applications can be submitted at any time. We will license vessels which can provide the required information about their fishing activity in Jersey waters, in accordance with the Trade and Cooperation Agreement.”

The licensing category breakdown is now as follows:

  • GREEN - 116 permanent licences (an increase of 3)
  • ORANGE - 46 temporary licences (a reduction of 3)

Permitted to fish in Jersey waters until 31 January 2022.
