Higher Education Grant Scheme Uplift

May 17, 2022

A 2.9% cost-of-living uplift will be applied to Higher Education maintenance grants, with effect from September 2022.

The current scheme was brought forward in 2018 with the aim of reversing the decline in the number of Jersey students opting for university study by making HE more affordable, and reducing the financial pressure on families.

Over the period 2017-20, there has been an average 17% annual increase in uptake of HE grants.  This compares with a 1.9% increase in numbers of Secondary School pupils coming through the education system, which suggests that the scheme has been a significant factor in the increased uptake of HE.
