Your Island, Your Say- Do You Want to Help Shape Jersey's Future?

Jul 03, 2019

Four environmental initiatives are being launched this summer and – in order to cross-promote them and encourage engagement – a campaign has been launched to help islanders understand what they are and their relationship to each other.

The “Your Island, Your Say” campaign has today (Wednesday, 3 July) been launched to promote:

  • Carbon Neutral 2030 – to help islanders to prepare for the States Assembly’s target of carbon neutrality within 11 years
  • The Shoreline Management Plan consultation – to ask islanders to consider proposals to protect the coastline against rising sea levels over the next 100 years
  • The Island Plan 2021-2030 consultation – to ask islanders to consider how Jersey’s planning laws should protect the environment, while balancing the demands of the economy and community, over the next decade
  • The Southwest St Helier Masterplan consultation – to ask islanders for their views on development in the area between Jardin de la Mer and Fort Regent.

Each initiative will be launched separately over the next few days. Your Island, Your Say will set out focus on promoting www.gov.je/YourIsland, which will be updated as the initiatives start and progress.

The Minister for the Environment, Deputy John Young, said: “Over the summer we want to get engagement from a wide cross-section of islanders on different environmental issues, and Your Island, Your Say will help us to do that.

“Some people may only be interested in what they can do to offset carbon emissions, while others might only want to comment on a specific area of the Island Plan. In every case, we are looking to involve the public at earlier stages of policy and planning as we prepare initiatives which will have a significant impact on Jersey’s environment over the coming decade and beyond.”
