Jersey Flag Flying in London

May 10, 2019

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is to fly the Jersey flag at its headquarters in London today, Thursday 9th May, to mark the island’s Liberation Day.

The MoJ is responsible for managing the constitutional relationship between the UK government and the Crown Dependencies and Lord Keen of Elie is the Minister with responsibility for Crown Dependency business within Whitehall.

Last year Lord Keen confirmed the UK government’s commitment to the historic and valued constitutional relationship between the UK and Jersey. In his letter he included reference to Jersey’s Royal Charters, the set of ancient documents that are the foundation of islanders’ rights today.

Lord Keen said today: “We are pleased to be flying the Jersey flag to mark the island’s Liberation Day, and to celebrate the important relationship that exists between the UK and the Crown Dependencies.”

Jersey’s Minister for External Relations, Senator Ian Gorst, said: “Jersey has a strong and productive relationship with the UK government and I am pleased that our historic links with the UK have been recognised.

“Liberation Day is the most important day in Jersey’s calendar and the MoJ’s decision to mark it in this way demonstrates the close understanding we have developed over many years.”
